Punched parts are products that are manufactured using a chipless cutting process. They are the outcome of mechanical processing: The initial material always constitutes a material in the form of plates and rolls from which the punched part is punched out. For the punching process, a shaping tool is used with which the cutting process is carried out as a “cut”, i.e. shearing action performed by a blade or by punch and die. This means that, to manufacture a punched part, you need the material as well as an appropriate punching tool.
First of all, two constituent elements are needed to manufacture punched parts: The unprocessed material and the tool that will process it mechanically, in this case a punching die. There are standard tool dimensions for discs, rings and rectangular blanks as well as contours for which the punching dies need to be manufactured on an entirely bespoke basis to suit customer requirements relating to the geometry and material of the die.
In industrial manufacturing processes, punching parts are produced mechanically, at high press pressures with continuous feed. Different levels of automation can be achieved, depending on machines and production systems.
