The shielding of electrical engineering devices is intended to prevent the entry or exit of magnetic and/or electrical sources of interference. Through targeted reflection, absorption and then deflection of electromagnetic waves, it is possible to interrupt the feedback loop and to reduce emissions.
Contacting by means of electrically conductive materials takes place inside the assembly or the housing. Frequency may constitute a source of interference but also a point of attack to tackle that issue. A simple form of shielding for when the enclosure is contacted electrically in a consistent manner.
EMI absorbers are near-field absorbers, specifically designed to remedy interference across a range extending from a few hundred megahertz up to several gigahertz. They absorb the EMI field generated by modern high-speed electronics and they eliminate emissions, crosstalk and oscillations. These are flexible polymer films charged with a special kind of magnetic flake particles that are not conductive. This means that they can be installed directly on circuits and on noisy conductors without risking any short circuits on the conductors and IC pins. These can be supplied in the form of plates or rolls that are easy to convert into customer-specific shapes and can be brought into a tape and roll format for automatic insertion after cutting. They are flame-retardant in accordance with UL94V-0 and can be supplied in various thicknesses of up to 1 mm. 3M absorbers are currently used in millions of products around the world, including laptops, mobile phones, routers, radios, cameras, PDAs and many other electronic devices. If shielding is not practical or is not effective enough, 3M absorbers can be used for similar applications.
This adhesive tape delivers outstanding results in the securing of various applications. It is extremely resistant and is a very good alternative to mechanical fastening methods. It is also an extremely simple way to install attachments in the automotive industry, as shown in this example of a multi-function control element.
